Social Media Erupts as Controversial Activist VeryDarkMan Regains Freedom

Martins Otse, the outspoken online personality known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been released from EFCC detention after nearly a week in custody, sparking widespread celebration among his followers. The activist’s arrest on money laundering charges had drawn significant public attention. In a now-viral clip circulating online, VDM appeared alongside his legal representative, prominent human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju. The activist vehemently denied the allegations, arguing the charges made little sense given his financial circumstances.

Since when do they charge broke men with money laundering? VDM quipped in the video. All these charity projects I do are funded by debt, not some mysterious fortune. But here’s the truth – they can’t keep me locked up when I’ve got Adeyanju fighting in my corner.

Adeyanju later confirmed the release via his social media platforms, acknowledging the collective effort that secured VDM’s freedom. His post read: “VDM is finally free on bail. Grateful to our legal team, particularly Marvin Omorogbe. We appreciate the overwhelming public support from ordinary Nigerians to prominent figures like Sowore, Peter Obi, Atiku, Davido, and opposition lawmakers. Special recognition goes to the EFCC leadership for their cooperation during this process. The fight for justice continues. The case has reignited debates about activist targeting and financial crime investigations in Nigeria’s digital space.
