Six Players Share Euro 2024 Golden Boot

England forward Harry Kane and Spain’s Dani Olmo are among six players who shared the Euro 2024 Golden Boot, each scoring three goals during the tournament.

Joining them on the leaderboard are Cody Gakpo (Netherlands), Georges Mikautadze (Georgia), Jamal Musiala (Germany), and Ivan Schranz (Slovakia). Neither Kane nor Olmo managed to break the tie in Sunday’s final, which Spain won 2-1 against England.

UEFA confirmed on Friday that the Golden Boot would be shared among the six players if Sunday’s final didn’t produce a clear winner. This marked a change in policy, as the award had previously been given to the player with the most assists when there was a tie in goals scored.

At Euro 2020, Cristiano Ronaldo won the Golden Boot despite tying with Czechia’s Patrik Schick on five goals because Ronaldo had an assist. This year, three goals is the lowest tally for a Golden Boot winner since Euro 2012 when Fernando Torres (Spain), Mario Gomez (Germany), and Alan Dzagoev (Russia) all scored three goals. Torres was awarded the boot as he played fewer minutes.

Kane is the second Englishman to win the award after Alan Shearer, who was the top scorer with five goals at Euro ’96. Kane has also won a Golden Boot for scoring six times at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The Bayern Munich forward is now the third player to win the Golden Boot at both the Euros and the World Cup, joining Valentin Ivanov (USSR) and Dražan Jerković (Yugoslavia), who achieved this feat in the 1960s. Legendary German forward Gerd Müller won the award outright in both the Euros and the World Cup.

Kane, England’s all-time record scorer, started his Euro 2024 campaign with a left-footed goal in a 1-1 draw against Denmark in the group stage. He added a winner in extra time against Slovakia in the round of 16 and scored a penalty equalizer in England’s 2-1 semifinal win over the Netherlands.

Olmo, who began as a substitute, replaced the injured Pedri in Spain’s starting lineup during the knockout stages and scored in all three matches leading to the final.

Schranz and Musiala scored their goals in the group stage, while Gakpo netted one of his three in the Netherlands’ round of 16 victory over Romania.
