The Kaduna State Ministry of Health has identified a distressing situation in Kafanchan, Jemaá Local Government Area, where the deaths of ten children have been linked to an outbreak of diphtheria disease. Governor Uba Sani expressed concern over this matter and swiftly instructed the emergency health team to conduct a thorough investigation into the situation. Reports emerged from Takau Ward, as well as Kafanchan A and Kafanchan B wards, indicating that residents were displaying symptoms such as difficulty in breathing, high fever, cough, general body weakness, sore throat, and swelling in the neck. Following the investigation, it was confirmed that the cause of these tragic deaths was indeed diphtheria. Immediate measures are being taken to contain the outbreak and protect the community from further harm.
“Upon learning about the unfortunate loss of lives in the affected communities, His Excellency Senator Uba Sani, Governor of Kaduna State, immediately directed the Kaduna State Ministry of Health to send an emergency team to investigate these cases.“A preliminary report from the Ministry revealed that the outbreak of diphtheria in Kafanchan had its first recorded case at the beginning of July 2023,” the statement said.
In recognition of the health officials’ swift response to the health emergency, the governor offered commendations and, at the same time, encouraged them to persist in their diligent efforts. The governor emphasized the importance of maintaining their ongoing tasks to effectively contain the disease and ultimately eliminate it from the affected region. The governor’s supportive words aimed to bolster the morale and dedication of the health officials in their crucial mission to safeguard public health and well-being.
