Wrexham secured a 3-1 victory against a 10-man Manchester United. However, the newly promoted League Two club’s triumph was marred by an injury to their key player, Paul Mullin.

Mullin, aged 28, experienced a punctured lung during a collision with goalkeeper Nathan Bishop. This incident occurred while he was playing against a United team predominantly composed of Under-21 players.

Boss Phil Parkinson subsequently warned Bishop to “steer clear” of Wrexham following the “reckless” challenge.

Wrexham secured a triumphant victory as goals from Elliot Lee, Aaron Hayden, and Sam Dalby sealed their success.

The match saw 19-year-old Spanish talent, Marc Jurado, scoring a crucial goal during first-half injury time for United. However, their hopes were dampened as 18-year-old Dan Gore received a red card shortly after the restart.

Despite not being able to attend, Hollywood actor and Wrexham co-owner, Ryan Reynolds, had representation through Rob McElhenney, who witnessed the team’s memorable win before a sold-out crowd of 34,248 at Snapdragon Stadium in California.

On the other side, United’s senior players had already moved on to Texas for their upcoming match against Real Madrid, leaving their manager Erik ten Hag to observe the youthful side’s performance from the bench. United’s starting lineup also featured the experienced Jonny Evans, who returned on a short-term deal after departing Leicester City at the end of the previous season.

During the previous season, Wrexham put an end to their 15-year absence from the football league, with Mullin netting an impressive total of 46 goals across all competitions.

As a consequence of his collision with 23-year-old Bishop, the striker is set to be absent from the beginning of the campaign.

During the first half, Mullin endured an injury that necessitated extensive treatment. Ultimately, he had to leave the field supported by an oxygen mask around his neck. Additionally, Bishop was cautioned with a yellow card for the foul committed during the incident.
